EU PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITY

  

On March 24-25, 2016 at Natural sciences education department a series of seminars under the teaching course "The environmental security strategy: the European experience integration" was held. During these seminars the issues on the EU countries participation in international environmental activities were discussed. Students made presentations on the content and ways of practical implementing international conventions, directives and agreements on environmental protection.

Among the most important international documents ratified by the EU countries were defined:

  • Bern Convention on Protecting Wild Flora and Fauna and Natural Habitats in Europe;
  • Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency;
  • Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Use;
  • Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer;
  • United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change;
  • Vienna Convention on the Ozone Layer Protection;
  • Kyoto Protocol on Limiting Greenhouse Gases Emissions into the Atmosphere;
  • Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants;

Also during the seminars the participation of European countries in international conferences and meetings on stable development and balanced environmental management were discussed. According to the student’s audience thought the most significant international influence and recognition have got:

  • International UNESCO Conference on Rational Usage and Preservation the Biosphere Resources, 1968;
  • Stockholm Conference on Environment, 1972;
  • Intergovernmental Conference on Education in the Environmental Field, 1977;
  • Geneva Conference on the Issues of Transboundary Air Pollution, 1983;
  • Vienna Conference on Ozone Layer Protection, 1985;
  • Global Forum on the Problems of Survival, 1990;
  • The First Global Forum on Environment , 2000;
  • The UN World Conference on Sustainable Development “Rio 2012”, 2012;

In the final part of these seminars the issues on ratification and implementing the international regulatory basis documents in Ukraine were discussed.
